Premium Orange Indicating Silica Gel Desiccant (2 - 4mm Spherical Beads)

Silica Gel Direct's heavy-duty orange bulk silica gel is a highly activated adsorbent engineered for industrial, commercial, and technical moisture control. Impregnated with a eco-friendly, cobalt-free indicator, these beads change dynamically from bright orange to dark green as they absorb moisture, offering a clear visual signal for monitoring saturation levels without environmental concerns.

Key Benefits & Features

  • Clear Visual Color Indicator: Transitions cleanly from orange to dark green as relative humidity increases, providing an accurate, real-time visual cue when reactivation or replacement is needed.

  • Cobalt Chloride-Free (Heavy-Metal Free): Uses an eco-friendly organic indicator indicator rather than cobalt salts, making it a safer choice for sensitive environments, handling, and disposal.

  • High-Purity & High-Capacity Absorption: Formulated with >97% pure Silicon Dioxide (SiO₂), absorbing ≥8% at 20% RH, ≥13% at 35% RH, ≥21% at 50% RH, and ≥28% at 90% RH (tested at 25°C).

  • Non-Corrosive & Chemically Stable: Non-corrosive and chemically stable under standard operating conditions. Remains completely dry to the touch even when fully saturated, leaving no liquid residues or corrosive by-products.

  • High Crush Strength & Uniform 2–4mm Beads: Durable spherical beads (≥90% within size range) resist dusting and breaking down, maintaining maximum airflow in high-pressure gas systems and breathing apparatuses.

  • Heavy-Duty Packaging: Supplied in a 4kg HDPE Bucket to preserve product freshness and ensure long-term shelf stability.

Color Change Indicator Guide

  • Active / Dry: Orange

  • Light Orange: >20% Relative Humidity

  • Greenish-Yellow: >35% Relative Humidity

  • Dark Green / Saturated: >50% Relative Humidity

Common & Industrial Applications

  • Gas & Liquid Dehydration: Natural gas dehydration, packaged gas and liquid dehydrators, high-pressure gas drying cartridges, and liquid petroleum gas (LPG) dryers.

  • Scientific & Laboratory: Dynamic drying of refrigerants, organic liquid drying, chemical decomposition processes, and laboratory drying columns.

  • Heavy Industry & Breathers: Transformer breather filters, compressed air dryers, mining, and construction moisture management.

  • General Storage: Enclosed equipment cases, tool storage, flower drying, and electronics enclosures where cobalt-free indicating is required.

    Orange silica gel desiccant

Posted by Russell Emerson on 15th Dec 2021

Works as advertised. I am using the desiccant to dehydrate 2 x DSLR cameras with associated lenses that were used in heavy rain. I purchased a $20 hygrometer online and an 18 litre resealable clear container. I have left the cameras in the container for a week with the initial humidity dropping from 55% to 11% after 3 days. Less than 30% is a win for the cameras. Reliable information regarding the amount of desiccant required for the size of drying container is available online.
